Basking on a boat

As someone who loves the water, there’s something special about being on a boat in that water.

I love to swim, snorkel, even just lounge on the beach near the water. I like to sit on the deck and look at the water; just looking even relaxes me. I am very blessed to spend the summer living on a lake and the winter living on the ocean.

Being on the water is extra special. At home at the lake, we have a pontoon boat and enjoy many days out on the boat. We fish, we BBQ, we float, we swim, we lounge.

The last two winters, we have been blessed to enjoy a sunset cruise on the ocean at Cabo San Lucas. Land’s End is where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. We have taken the smaller water taxis out to the beaches at Land’s End, but the chance to be on a larger boat was something special.

Sunset cruise on the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean

Being on a boat feels special. The sun on my face. The wind in my hair. The boat rocking up and down. The peace of watching your fishing line bob in the water. The quiet.

In the ocean, the slight smell of salt or even fish.  That endless horizon; on the ocean you can actually see the curvature of the earth. Sometimes we see whales breeching.

Our captains took us out of the marina, along Land’s End to the famous arch, where we all snapped pictures of this well-known landmark. We also got to see the sea lion colony.

We then cruised around the point and along the Pacific Ocean side of Cabo San Lucas, with its houses built into cliffs and its huge resorts and golf courses.

We enjoyed a spectacular ocean sunset, and continued to cruise as the sky turned its many shades of pink and purple and orange. Then the captain cruised us back into the marina, enjoying the lights of the city from the water.

At home, my captain cruises me on the shores of Lake Diefenbaker. We lounge in the sun, and we often stay out to enjoy a spectacular Saskatchewan sunset.

There’s nothing like being on a boat, for someone who loves the water as much as I do!
